Background: DDB Edmonton needed illustrations for their client WBRL (formerly known as Fort McMurray Public Library). The illustrations are to be used primarily for their website but may be used for printed marketing collateral as well. For the execution, they were looking for a variety of illustrative styles, with the overall look and colour palette working with the existing aesthetic of the website. The illustrations would live as as banners on the “Programs & Resources” section of the site.
The Design Problem/Opportunity: Create a set of illustrations with completely different styles, to the themes provided. Limit of 1 hour per illustration (read: rapid-fire pace from concept to sketch to final iteration).
The Solution: Creating a series of illustrations that look totally different one after the other was a surprisingly fun brain and creativity exercise. The themes (in order as shown above) are: Teen Advisory Board, VolunTeens, Write on! Creative Writing Workshops for Kids, Story Bites – Children’s story time, Lots O’Tots – Toddler play group, Library Lego Creations, Craft ’n’ Chat – Adults/Teen mix crafting group, and Book Babies – Babies and books.
